Stefan Walser from TTTech Computertechnik AG, presented the paper “Real-time Container Orchestration based on Time utility Functions” at 2024 IEEE WFCS in Toulouse. WFCS is the largest IEEE conference especially dedicated to communications for (industrial) automation systems. Its main aim is to provide a forum for researchers, developers and practitioners to review and discuss most recent trends in the area and share innovative research directions.

Don’t miss out! The concluding conference of the EUCloudEdgeIoT’s Open Continuum CSA! 🌟
After two years of teamwork and creativity, and the successful hosting of last year’s Consultation and Concertation on Computing Continuum, the Open Continuum consortium eagerly anticipates gathering our EUCloudEdgeIoT Community to celebrate our shared accomplishments.
This event will unite over 50 Research and Innovation Actions (RIAs) along with several Research and Technology Organizations (RTOs) for a day of introspection, motivation, and networking.
Stay tuned for further information on the schedule and registration! https://eucloudedgeiot.eu/ Meanwhile, mark your calendars and set aside June 18th for this significant occasion.
We look forward to welcoming you in Brussels!
Vasilis Pitsilis represented aerOS Project at the Panel Discussion “Meta Operating Systems for The Edge Continuum: Current Status, Trends, and Challenges” for MetaOS EU-funded projects with the following participants: , Fulvio Risso (FLUIDOS project), Panagiotis Trakadas (EU Project ICOS), Yiannis Verginadis (NebulOuS), Terpsi Velivassaki (NEMO PROJECT) and Anastasios Zafeiropoulos (NEPHELE). The panel discuccion took place in the context of 1st International Workshop on MetaOS for the Cloud-Edge-IoT Continuum (MECC 2024) on April 22nd 2024.
The MetaOS workshop explored strategies for the future of computing continuum, focusing on the convergence of cloud, edge, and IoT technologies in the European context. It delved into the challenges and opportunities presented by this convergence, aiming to develop innovative solutions and frameworks for optimizing performance, security, and scalability across the computing continuum.

The aerOS journal paper entitled “How many FIDO protocols are needed? Analysing the technology, security and compliance” is now available. The paper was submitted by InQBit team.
To overcome the security vulnerabilities caused by weak passwords, thus bridge the gap between user friendly interfaces and advanced security features, the Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) alliance defined a number of authentication protocols. The existing literature leverages all versions of the FIDO protocols, without indicating the reasons behind the choice of each individual FIDO protocol (i.e., U2F, UAF, FIDO2). Inevitably, the question ”which protocol is more suitable per case” becomes significant. To provide an answer to the previous question, this paper performs a thorough comparative analysis on the different protocol specifications and their technological and market support, to identify whether any protocol has become obsolete. To reach to a conclusion, the proposed approach i) explores the existing literature, ii) analyses the specifications released by the FIDO Alliance, elaborating on the security characteristics, iii) inspects the technical adoption by the industry and iv) investigates the compliance of the FIDO with standards, regulations and other identity verification protocols. Our results indicate that FIDO2 is the most widely adopted solution; however, U2F remains supported by numerous web services as a two-factor authentication (2FA) choice, while UAF continues to be utilized in mobile clients seeking to offer the Transaction Confirmation feature.

aerOS Project attended the metaOS workshop by EUCloudEdgeIoT in EU Commission’s premises! It was a very fruitful event, where all the metaOS projects participated and had the exchange to exchange ideas and activities.
aerOS project co-organized the “Meta Operating Systems: Innovating the CEI landscape” webinar. This webinar offered a unique opportunity to explore state-of-the-art projects that are redefining the boundaries of edge-to-cloud computing through virtualized, secure, and efficient orchestration mechanisms. The aerOS paper entitled “A Proof of Concept Implementation of an AI-assisted User-Centric 6G Network”, has been accepted at EuCNC 2024 & 6G Summit, Antwerp, Belgium 2024.
The 2024 EuCNC & 6G Summit builds on putting together two successful conferences in the area of telecommunications: EuCNC (European Conference on Networks and Communications), supported by the European Commission, and the 6G Summit, originated from the 6G Flagship programme in Finland, one of the very first in its area. The conference is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) and the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP), and focuses on all aspects of telecommunications ranging from 5G deployment and mobile IoT to 6G exploration and future communications systems and networks, including experimentation and testbeds, and applications and services. It brings together cutting-edge research and world-renown industries and businesses, globally attracting in the last years more than 900 delegates from more than 40 countries all over the world, to present and discuss the latest results, and an exhibition with more than 50 exhibitors, for demonstrating the technology developed in the area, namely within research projects from EU R&I programmes.
The conference has a not-for-profit organisation, hence, registration fees are as low as possible and all surplus will be made available in grants. Best Papers and Booth Awards will be granted. Accepted and presented papers for regular sessions will be published in the Conference Proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore and other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.
This video presents Scenario 1 from aerOS pilot 1: Data-driven cognitive production lines. It is part of the aerOS project, which aims to create an IoT-Edge-Cloud continuum.
Scenario 1 takes place at the Swiss Smart Factory, a dynamic hub within the Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne, dedicated to fostering Industry 4.0 through its test and demonstration platform.
