We are proud to announce that, as of October 1st, O-CEI Horizon has officially taken over the outstanding standardisation work initiated by the our Project. This effort will continue under the ongoing ISO/IEC JTC1/SC41 standardisation activities, with O-CEI Horizon leading the Preliminary Working Item JTC1-22 Architecture.
Several aerOS partners — including Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), NCSR “DEMOKRITOS”, Innovalia Association, FIWARE Foundation, Telefónica Innovación Digital, have joined the O-CEI Horizon consortium. Their participation ensures continuity and strengthens our shared commitment to standardisation, interoperability, security, connectivity, and trust.
Today, during the final event of the aerOS project, our partners from Atos IT Solutions and Services Iberia, S.L. and Trialog will deliver a presentation on the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 41 Internet of Things and Digital Twin standard — further highlighting the collaborative spirit and shared vision between aerOS and O-CEI Horizon.
By building on the achievements of aerOS, O-CEI Horizon will continue to contribute to international alignment in IoT and Digital Twin technologies, paving the way for a more connected, secure, and interoperable digital ecosystem.

This video describes Pilot 4 of Horizon Europe’s funded project aerOS, focusing on Smart edge services for the Port Continuum. This pilot explores two important and practical use cases for smart maritime container terminals: (1) Predictive Maintenance of Container Handling Equipment such as Ship to Shore Cranes and Straddle Carriers using machine learning at the edge; (2) Computer Vision for automatically detecting container damages or broken container seals in real time, while containers are unloaded from ships. EUROGATE Container Terminal Limassol, serving as the industrial partner of the pilot, have joined forces with PRODEVELOP and the Cyprus University of Technology, both bringing valuable experience and knowledge for developing edge technology and AI solutions through the capabilities offered by aerOS.

The IoT Tech Expo World Series in Amsterdam has just concluded, bringing together over 8,000 attendees, 200+ speakers, and 200+ exhibitors to explore IoT, edge, IIoT, and beyond. aerOS was proud to join forces with the NEPHELE, MetaOS, NebulOuS, NEMO, ICOS, and FLUIDOS projects, showcasing three years of dedicated collaboration. At our booth, we highlighted how aerOS advances edge-cloud orchestration, safe automation, and IoT applications, while connecting with innovators who share our vision for the future.

The aerOS project demonstrates its architecture in the Smart Buildings domain with a real-world deployment at COSMOTE’s premises. Through autonomous IoT ecosystems, edge intelligence, and frugal AI, aerOS optimises energy use, workplace safety, and cybersecurity. AIOTI Days 2025 took place on 22–23 September 2025 in Madrid, at the Colegio de Aparejadores. The conference brought together thematic sessions, project presentations, and the second edition of the scientific conference GIECS, all under the overarching theme of Cities 5.0 — exploring how AI, continuum computing and virtual twins can foster human-centric, sustainable, and intelligent urban living. It also featured sessions on green ICT, standardisation, collaboration across domains, and showcased EU-funded projects from sectors such as 5G/6G, IoT, AI, smart cities and more. At OpenSource Community Day 2025, aerOS showcased how open source is powering the future of computing! Our Meta Operating System spans the full spectrum—from IoT & edge to cloud—presented by Rafael Vaño Garcia at AIOTI DAYS 2025.

The aerOS use case aims to demonstrate its architecture in the Smart Buildings market by optimising enterprise efficiency and safety through process and data autonomy and self-orchestrated IoT ecosystems, enhancing the energy efficiency of large buildings with real-time processing and frugal AI, and extending capabilities via 5G, NFV, and Network Apps. Expected benefits will be derived from intelligent aerOS nodes that enable autonomous, decentralised decision-making at the edge, while its unique abstraction approach bridges heterogeneity in data and platforms to orchestrate sensors, systems, and analytics across the IoT edge-cloud continuum. In Scenario 1 – Intelligent Occupational Safety and Health, aerOS will be integrated into the IoT ecosystem of a COSMOTE corporate building in Athens to monitor energy, luminosity, CO₂, humidity, temperature, motion detection, and desk occupancy, using embedded analytics and real-time/historical data to inform clustering and seating of employees, while actuation of ventilation, heating/cooling, and lighting systems with edge intelligence and frugal AI will ensure decentralised, secure, and low-latency management of office conditions for health and efficiency. In Scenario 2 – Cybersecurity and Data Privacy in Building Automation, COSMOTE will deploy aerOS cybersecurity components for authentication, authorisation, data governance, ownership, and sharing, alongside 5G, VNF, and potentially NetApps for executing security and privacy functions; video identification for safety will be supported by anonymisation and secure storage mechanisms. Driven by COSMOTE, NCSRD, FOGUS, INFOLYSIS, and UPV, this use case will showcase the energy-efficient, sustainable, flexible, and health-safe potential of aerOS in a real-world deployment and validation within COSMOTE’s enterprise office building in Athens, Greece.
